VALOUR
When I think of virtue and valour, Deborah comes to mind. Not only was she a prophet but she also judged Israel for over forty years. The Israelites were being oppressed by the Canaanites and during that time God spoke to Deborah and gave her a battle plan.
Deborah shared this with a man named Barak, who commanded thousands of warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun. Although he was a man with great influence, and was likely a skilled warrior himself he responded, “I will go, but only if you go with me.” And Deborah agreed.
Now that is VALOUR.
I get an image of Deborah right at front, in the thick of the battle, clothed in a suit of armour, sword charged. How often do we women let fear and anxiety rule rather than bravery and boldness. How often do we let ourselves become timid when we should be powerful. We serve an almighty God and it is he that gives us valour. The Israelites defeat the Canaanites that day and from then on become stronger and stronger till they finally destroy the enemy king.
Let’s be Deborah women, those that hear from God, those that don’t shy from battle, those that stand victorious over the enemy. Let’s be filled with virtue and valour.
