Great courage in the face of danger
particularly in battle
What a lineage of valour we have as Christians and women of C3 church.
We need only look to those who have gone before us in the last 20 years of Everywoman and shown great courage to pave the way for us to be where we are today. We also have the example of women of the bible – Miriam, Ruth, Rahab, Deborah, Jael, Esther, Elizabeth, the Mary's, Martha, Anna, Priscilla, Lydia, and the list goes on. If you don’t know their stories, I encourage you to read them and be heartened.
But our greatest example of valour is Jesus Christ himself, for “he endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.” Hebrews 12:2.
I am always encouraged to know that no matter what battle I am facing, whether it is a challenging meeting, workplace difficulties, a tough job market, health issues, discouragement, disappointment, or struggling for a breakthrough, God is with me.
“When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Isaiah 43:2
I know I don’t have to face these battles alone, and that my courage doesn’t come from my own abilities or strength, but from Jesus’ promise that “surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20. When I am facing a tough situation I often picture Jesus standing in the room with me, the fourth person in the furnace, just as he has promised. We can show valour too when we take courage in knowing that Jesus has already overcome the world.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
