Virtue and Valour - Go the girls!
This has been an anthem echoed in my walk since joining the family of C3 Auckland and Whangārei. The catch phrase of our very own Ps Fiona; the epitome of both virtue and valour. A witness of how to be both strong in morals and in stature, walking with God for the long haul with boldness and conviction.
We as women get compared to the Proverbs 31 woman; a woman of great virtue. As an aspiration, yes; but as an expectation the burden can feel heavy.
When I was a young mum navigating through my struggles, God gave me a picture. It has been etched in my mind ever since and a source of comfort when I feel like I’m about to fall. A young girl, walking along a balance beam, arms outstretched to balance. Then there is a figure behind her, arms stretched to hold each smaller hand; to secure her balance as she walks forward one foot after the other. The picture held a whisper only my heart could hear “Eyes up, I’ve got you.”
There have been times in my life that I forget to keep looking up. In these times my knees give out and I feel like I’m going to fall. Sometimes I do. But always, he [God] is there.
Virtue is added to our faith as we walk in step with God and adopt his goodness in our lives. Reaching out to touch the hem of his cloak, holding on to his promises, walking in obedience to his word.
Our valour is developed as we continue to return to him, trusting in his goodness and keeping our eyes on him one step at a time.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Deuteronomy 31:6
