10 May Overflow #7
Now there’s overflow and there is overflow
When we envision overflow lives, for me, it conjures up images of water, flow, ease, lushness, proverbs 31, beauty and power but let’s be real…..sometimes what is actually overflowing from our lives is not so ideal or pretty.
Anger, Cynicism, Insecurity. Those, “shove in the cupboard”, kind of things.
But like this overfull cupboard it ALL comes tumbling out…whether we like it or not ….because that door won’t shut anymore!
So, we need to get rid of the ugly and fill it with good. God can not fill what is not empty.
Time to de clutter.
“Noooo”, you cry as you cling to that top you haven’t worn in 5 years but used to be your favourite and you wore it on your first date with so and so.
“Yes”, say I.
Luckily there are people and strategies to help us. Marie Kondo has taken the world by storm with her de cluttering strategies for her 2.9 million followers – perfect folding technique is my fav. There are apps, coaches, businesses and books a-plenty which can help. One particular title caught my eye recently:
The gentle art of Swedish Death Cleaning.
That will sort you out for sure!
Perhaps however here, in this space, we need to deal with the more important stuff which is our emotional world and get some advice from the boss. The big guy.
As a lay pastor for many years I have witnessed the power of these three instructions:
I pray that you take some time today to reflect on where you are at.
What is coming out of your cupboard that isn’t the best?
Repent and determine to deal to it.
Confess your struggles to someone you trust and who can keep you accountable.
Forgive everyone of anything and everything they have done – big and small.
Go through this process with all your stuff. Watch your life empty of the junk and begin to be filled and overflow (with all the right stuff!)
